How to add an AI assistant to your website

Start with your published website address, try your assistant’s answers, and add it to that website with a small piece of code.

Start with the information your visitors need

An assistant is useful when visitors have questions about your offerings, prices, policies, or next steps. Gather the public pages that explain those things. You can also paste information you want the assistant to use, such as service details or answers to common questions.

For website chat, start with the published website address where you will install the assistant. Onepard connects the chat to that website. You can paste extra business information after setup.

You will need access to your website’s custom-code settings. Most website builders place this setting in the site header or footer. Check your website plan supports it before starting.

Onepard looks after the assistant. Your website loads it through a small piece of website code copied from your Onepard account.

Create your assistant and try its answers

  1. Add your business information

Open Get started, enter your published website address, and complete sign-in. Keep the business name, offerings, prices, and contact details clear in the information you provide.

  2. Check what is ready

Select your business in the dashboard and check Business information. Your assistant can start answering when its first information is ready, while more website pages may still be read. Check the ready and failed page counts before treating coverage as complete.

Try a complete example

When your information is ready, select Open your chat in Chat settings. Use the questions below with your own offerings and prices. This fictional course studio shows what to check.

Practice Course Studio is fictional. Its group course costs US$120 per person for four weekly lessons. Individual lessons cost US$40 per hour. Materials are included in both. The business confirms lesson times after receiving an enquiry.

  1. Check a price answer

For the example studio, ask “What does the group course cost and include?” The information supports US$120 per person, four weekly lessons, and materials. A follow-up, “What about individual lessons?”, should use the US$40 hourly price. Compare your own answers with your published details.

  2. Check a missing fact and a correction

Ask about a detail your information does not answer, such as “Are evening lessons available?” The answer should leave that unconfirmed. Add a real missing detail in Business information. Once the update is ready, ask again and check it uses the correction.

  3. Request personal help

Ask “Please contact me to arrange the group course.” Check an enquiry form opens. Then say “Actually, I want an individual lesson on Tuesday evening.” Check the same form reflects the correction and keeps any details you already entered.

  4. Check submission

Label the request as a test and submit using contact details you control. Check the saved request in Enquiries includes the corrected lesson request. Check the notification email separately. The assistant should acknowledge the request, with the lesson time awaiting your confirmation.

Copy the code to your website

  1. Choose how the chat appears

In Chat settings, find Add it to your website. Choose Corner chat bubble or Bottom chat box, then select Copy. Copy the complete code for the business you want visitors to speak with.

  2. Save it in your website settings

Paste the code once into your site’s custom header or footer area. Keep any existing website code in place. Save the change and publish your website if your builder requires publication.

  3. Open the published website

Visit your public website in a private browser window. Open the assistant and ask a question. Visit another public page and check the chat is available there too.

The bottom chat box opens floating replies above the message field over a blurred Good Day Flowers website. A customer asks for bright birthday flowers and receives a helpful reply.

Check the experience on a phone

Try opening and closing the assistant, typing a longer message, and reading its reply on a phone. Check your navigation, cookie notice, and other fixed buttons remain usable. With Bottom chat box, send a message to see the conversation open above the message box.

If the assistant does not appear

  • Check the code was saved in your website’s header or footer code settings.
  • Confirm the published site has the latest change. Clear your website cache if your platform provides that option.
  • Check your plan allows extra website code and that a browser extension or website security setting is not blocking the assistant.
  • If you see the wrong business, copy the code again from the selected business in Chat settings.
  • If chat says it is unavailable on this website, check you are using the published website address entered during setup. A preview, temporary address, or different website may not be accepted.

Common questions

Can I try it before adding it to my website?

Yes. Once information is ready, use Open your chat in Chat settings to try the chat page you can share. Your plan’s reply allowance applies to completed replies.

What if I started with pasted information only?

Use Open your chat in Chat settings to open the chat page you can share. The current dashboard has no setting to add a website to a business started with pasted information only.

Will it know everything on my website immediately?

Coverage grows as pages become ready. Check Business information for the exact page status and add missing details. Website changes are checked in the background within plan limits.
